Q: How much gasoline does a 2001 chevrolet silverado 1500 USE?
an estimate or so?
please and thankyou
A: A short trip it’ll use about one gallon. If you drive it farther, it’ll use more. =^ )
Q: How difficult is it to replace shocks on a Chevrolet Silverado 1500?
I have a 2004 2WD 1500. I have never replaced shocks on any car or truck. I have decent mechanical knowledge and I was told by a few people that shocks are pretty easy. I can replace brakes and pads in under and hour so how hard can the shocks be to do?
Also I am replacing all four corners, it currently has the original shocks at 80k miles. I was looking at some Bilstein shocks to replace whatever they used from factory.
A: its not hard at all i found that KYB is better than Bilstein
Q: What transmissions will fit my Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck?
I have a 1989 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck. It’s automatic. The transmission has gone bad and I am looking to replace it, just wondering what will fit it. My friend is a mechanic and I can help him drop it in. Just wanna know what to get.
A local is selling a turbo 400 for about $300 and I’m pretty sure that would work. Could I also use a 700r and would it be better?
I have switched out the original engine to a more modern vortec from a 97 chevy(still carb though), which delivers more power. So I would like something a little better than just ’stock’ but not necessarily on the budget for ‘high performance’.
I’m looking to buy something used to save money. What are my options and what can I expect to pay?
A: that would probably have been a 700R4 already, the turbo 400 would take some different parts to install. I believe an 88-93 pickup transmission would work..
Q: Pros and Cons on 03-06 Chevy Silverado’s?
I’m getting my first truck and I can’t decide which one. Which chevy silverado should I go for?

Which would be the 2 wise picks?
A: Well the v6 will not tow around alot of weight….You should buy a 4×4 because resale is higher than a 2×4…..I,d get a duramax 2500….You,ll always have enough power and diesel is cheaper than gas.
Q: How reliable is an older Chevrolet Silverado?
I’m turning 16 soon and my mom is giving me around $10,000 for for my first car what car I really want is a used Chevy Silverado 1500 extended cab but what I have been noticing when searching for one on the internet is that almost all around my price range have high mileage, around 140,000. So what I was wondering is how reliable are Silverados with high mileage?
Also would it be a better choice to get one that doesn’t have the extended cab without high mileage or to get a Dodge ram 1500 quad cab (they are reasonably cheaper)?
Im lookig for around 2003 or 2004
A: I bought mine new in 1993. I now have just over 375,000 miles on it, and have not had any major engine work yet. But then, I change the oil regularly, do all the maintenance regularly, so I won’t have a problem. My answer to you is this… ask to have it check by a good mechanic of your choice before you commit a lot of money for something. It’s best to find out if the truck has been care for or abused. It’ll be worth the few bucks it’ll cost you. As far as the Silverado goes, I’ve been happy with it, its held up well, and after 16 years, still going strong.
Q: What would cause a chevy silverado 1500 to make a clicking/thud noise when changing gears?
My Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4wd (electronic push button) 5.3L V8 Vin B truck makes a clicking/thud noise when it shifts gears, particularly into second and into third (assuming it starts off in and downshifts to first). It is only audible with the windows rolled down. There is no hesitation felt in the engine or loss of power, there is just the noise. If I take off at high acceleration, the clicking noise is either not there or not audible over the sound of the engine.
This may be nothing, or may also be a sign of a major repair, I just want to make sure. This is my first Chevrolet Silverado and my first 4 wheel drive vehicle. I bought it used with 64k miles on it. It could have been making the noise the entire time I’ve had it, I just did not notice it due to having the windows rolled up.
A: you have a transmission mount out. get it fixed before the transmission case gets damaged.
Q: What kind of gear oil does my 2006 Chevy Silverado need?
I have a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Z71 (4×4) and I need to know what kind (SAE grade) of oil does my differential require?
For the record I have modified the truck quite a bit and I now have 627 rwhp so if that makes a difference in what gear oil I should use please do tell.
A: 80/90 gear oil. you can get it at auto zone with the limited slip additive in it.
Q: Where can I find the most and best aftermarket parts for an 88-98 GM 1500 truck?
I use to see parts all the time, but now I cant seem to find any good websites for the truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
1997 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 short bed single cab 5.7L vortech.
Thanks!
Looking for mainly exterior, engine and exhaust work is done
A: I have always enjoyed Summit racing. I am not sure what exactly you are looking for. But I have a 1989 K1500 Chevy pickup with a 5.0. Through Summit, I was able to purchase their own brand of headers and a “cat back” dual exhaust system for under $500. This system is CARB certified which means it was compliant with California smog. I then purchased a cam and lifters from my local machine shop for $200 that added excellent mid range torque.
I did all of this myself in my driveway. The headers and dual exhausts were simple bolt ins that didn’t require any hacking or special tools. I was able to do that within a Saturday afternoon. The cam and lifters were done the following Saturday.
I have also learned over the years to check local machine shops for heads and other parts. Sometimes you will get lucky because someone in the past has dropped off a set of heads for machine work, then they never come back to pick them up. The machine shop doesn’t want a set of heads taking up shelf space and will often make a smokin’ deal on them.
Q: Whats the problem with my Headlights and Day Running Lights? 2001 Chevrolet Silverado?
i have a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. All my lights work (hi beam, parking,stop..etc) except for my low beam headlights and my day running lights. All the fuses are good, i replaced the bulbs with new ones from Autozone. I noticed there is no electrical current comming from my low beam and day running light sockets.
Could this that the relays are no good anymore? or wire is no good? or what do you guys think?…..help!!!! i cant really drive at night since i’m currently using hi beams and dont want to get pulled over.
A: Sounds like the multi function switch is acting up but that kind of problem needs proper testing for the parts are high.
Q: What are the different types of Chevrolet Silverado trucks?
i’m looking to get a used one as my first car, i just want a standard one with a regular back seat and regular everything. is that a 1500? what would it be called?
A: The truck with a back seat but not four doors is called an extended cab. It is available in 1500, 2500 and 3500.
Q: Does anyone experience this problem with their Chevy Silverado?
Ok, I just bought this truck used from a Mitsubishi-Hyundai Dealership. It’s a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Ext. Cab Classic with a 4.3 Vortec, Code X and with only 17K miles on the truck. My problem is that the exhaust will make some strange vibration when I accelerate to 1200-1400 RPM. It sounds like a growling bear or somekind of noise, but diminishes when accelerated to higher RPM. But anyway my truck is still under factory warranty. Does anyone ever had this problem before?
A: Ok I have to ask what is a code X? Does it have a factory exhaust? Its possible its loose. If it has 17000 miles take it to a chevy dealer they can check it out.
Q: If i buy a used pick-up truck with 130,000 miles on it and put a new transmission in it, will it last?
If i buy a used pick-up truck with 130,000 miles on it and put a new transmission in it, will it last?
i am going to buy a 2000 chevrolet silverado 1500 in great shape with 130,000 miles for $5,999. If i buy this truck than buy a transmission do i have less of a chance of breaking down? will it last a lot longer?also, if you know how much a transmission for this car costs let me know please.

A: Figure 3 to 5 thousand. But it may not need one.
Engines and trannies, if taken care of, will last. Putting in a new tranny will not assure you of trouble free miles ahead.
What is going to get you is all the little systems. All the seals, all the joints, all the gaskets, all the sensors. Pumps, hoses, belts. These are “wear items”. Sooner or later, they will have to be replaced.
New vs Used cars is really a matter of “spend it now or spend it later.”
A new car is “perfect” but boy will it cost you.
Save your money, Do two things. Get the care checked at your local mech. Just to make sure you don’t have a cracked engine block or something. Second thing, get AAA. For the love of all that is true get AAA. Get the “tow me anywhere” coverage. This way if it does break down, you can get home safe.
Q: What Brand of truck would be best?
1. Chevrolet Silverado 1500
2. GMC Sierra 1500
3. Ford F150
4. Dodge Ram 1500
I only have $5,000 and I am looking for one to use with a 5′ x10′ utility trailer and to have the grandkids in the back seat. I was looking at those extended cabs etc. Thanks!
A: Number 1 or 2
Q: Chevy silverado repair question…. Easy 10!?
i own a 2000 Chevrolet silverado single cab 1500. 4.3L V6. My door speakers are very very bad, i mean i dont even use them. i was wondering if there is a Manuel for my truck. i need to know how to get the door panel off without breaking it. does anyone know of a like that i can find one??? Pleasse help me. ive tried googling it but got nothing uselfull….
A: remove EVERY screw you can see on the door panel, and GENTLY pry the bottom corner of the door panel up (there are clips that hold the panel to the door). Go SLOWLY, if it’s not “popping” off fairly easily you’ve missed a screw! Take you time and look closely for every screw! Hope this helps.
BTW- don’t cheap out on new speakers, you get what you pay for!
Q: I’m deciding to get a pick-up truck, which one i should get?
The trucks i’m looking for is either, a Ford F-150, Dodge Ram 1500, Chevrolet Silverado or the Honda Ridgeline. Any of them will do since i’ll be using it for heavy duty things like house renovations, carrying heavy items (Bricks, concrete, etc) and along with off-road driving, and harsh road conditions especially in winter.
A: Any of them WON’T do ! The Ridgeline is a great truck but it’s payload capacity is only 1550lbs. I’d go with the F150 or the Toyota Tundra. Make sure to check the payload capacities to see if it will suit your needs! The F150 payload capacity is 6450 to 8200 . If you carry more than that you may need an F250.
